Studies confirm the value of omega-3 fatty acids for the healthy development of your child's brain, joints, eyes and overall health. The ratio of Omega 6 oils to Omega 3 oils in the body should be a 2:1 ratio. Unfortunately, the current American diet has an Omega 6 to Omega 3 ratio of 20:1-50:1 which promotes chronic disease, inflammation and can disrupt the normal development of a child's nervous system.

One of the best studies1 regarding fish oil and children’s learning was a peer-reviewed research study on children with developmental coordination disorders called the Oxford-Durham study. The study found that fish oil supplementation created improvements in both reading and spelling. Ritalin prescriptions have increased from 2,000 in 1991 to 329,000 in 2005 due to the lack of awareness of alternative solutions.

In another study2, 200 children were given 1,000 mg of omega 3 fatty acids daily (300 mg DHA, 200 mg EPA, 400 mg alpha-linolenic acid [ALA], and 100 mg of docosapentaenoic acid [DPA]) over six months. After six months parents reported a significant improvement in children’s behavior with a 41.6% reduction in acting out, being aggressive, and reactivity and a 68.4% reduction in social withdrawal, feelings of loneliness, guilt or fearfulness.
